Urnex Hits the Streets

The past two days, the Urnex Marketing team conducted its first grass roots marketing event. We spent time in our local community engaging and conversing with coffee enthusiasts about making coffee at home. I thought it would be interesting to share some highlights of our conversations:

My home brewer is old, when should I get a new one? This is a very personal decision. Often, people’s tastes and levels of sophistication with coffee change over time. As you get more involved in selecting your beans, grinding your own coffee, and building awareness of the different brewing methods, your machine needs will evolve as well. A great site for learning about different machines is www.wholelattelove.com.

 • What is the difference between cleaning and descaling? We get this question a lot! The easiest way to explain it is that cleaning your machine removes residual coffee oil build-up in your machine that can lead to bitter tasting coffee. Descaling breaks down calcium and lime deposits that, if not removed, can lead to temperature issues and machine break-down.

I heard Starbucks just came out with a machine – what do you know about it? Yes, Starbucks recently launched a single serve espresso machine, The Verismo™. The initial reviews of the machine are extremely positive.

How do I know what beans to use? We encourage people to be open to going beyond what they can find at the local grocery store. A huge part of the quality of your cup comes from the beans you choose. Build a relationship with a local coffee roaster and /or barista. Most, if not all, the baristas we know love to talk about the origin of the coffees they are brewing and would be happy to share what they know.

We loved having the opportunity to personally speak to so many home coffee enthusiasts and hope and expect to do it again in the near future. If you have any questions for us, we welcome the chance to continue the conversation here.
